Popota

Popota and Leopoldina have been filling Portuguese homes with Christmas joy for the past few decades. In 2020 we were trusted with the mission of bringing them together for the first time ever. We teamed up with Continente and Fuel to tackle what would be our biggest project yet, and the result became legendary, the most successful and best performing Popota film ever!

After making a wish during Continente’s 35th anniversary party, Popota imagines herself performing alongside Leopoldina at a Super Bowl style show… With this brief from the agency we set out to storyboard the entire film, and then design and build two different sets, dozens of characters and two distinctive visual styles for each of the settings.

We designed several different toys that would be part of both the anniversary party and the concert scenes, so each of them had to be rendered in two different styles.

During the Look Development phase we established the look of the toon shaded version of the characters.

The set decorations and lights change throughout the show in order to reveal new elements as the song progresses and reaches its climax.

Both protagonists show up in the two different “worlds”, so we went through several iterations until we found the perfect wardrobe to fit each character’s personality in each of the two different settings.

Watching the show is a crowd of over 3000 Popotos, for which we designed and modelled several different cloth and accessory variations.
